2016 Chevrolet Spark: All Grown Up
April 27 2015,
It’s a more serious fourth generation of the Chevrolet Spark that has been unveiled at the New York International Auto Show and that will go on sale later this year. Exit the bubbly, childish look; here comes a more adult version of the sub-compact hatch. That said, its exterior may be more refined and more elegant, the Spark still offers plenty of what made the previous model an impressive hit in North America and particularly in Canada.
The 2016 Chevrolet Spark is more serious-looking than ever. This fourth generation of the sub-compact has definitely upped the ante on oh-so-many levels. The new design of the hatch is now more sophisticated. The cartoonish look of the previous generation, with the cute, flat little button nose and wide-eye headlamps, has been replaced by more masculine features thanks to the pentagonal grille and the eagle-eye lights. The lines of the silhouette are not as curvy anymore, especially noticeable in the shape of the side windows. The new Spark is slightly longer and lower than its predecessor, adding to the dynamism of the silhouette. This new design will take the world by storm, as it will be commercialized in 40 countries.
The 2016 Chevrolet Spark will now come equipped with best in-class safety equipment. Chevrolet built on the already well-established reputation of the Spark as the top safety pick by the IIHS by adding new features to make the sub-compact even safer. Other than the usual StabiliTrak stability control technology, electronic traction control and OnStar in-vehicle communication service, the 2016 Spark will also come equipped with forward collision alert, lane departure warning and side blind spot alert technologies as well as a rearview camera and rear park assist, giving its competitors a run for their money.
The new Spark will comfortably sit four adults despite the lowered roof-line as the seats have been slightly lowered as well for a more engaged driving. The redesigned dashboard looks fancier than ever with better quality materials and a 7-inch color touchscreen at its center with next gen Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system as well as OnStar’s 4G LTE wifi hotspot.
Under the hood, the 2016 Chevrolet Spark receives a new 1.4L EcoTec engine that increases the sub-compact’s output to 98 hp, a 16% increase over the previous powertrain. The newcomer will be teamed with a choice of a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic transmission.
The new generation Chevrolet Spark is expected to hit our showroom at Bruce GM in the fall of 2015.
