2014 GMC Acadia is “Engineered for Families”
July 23 2014, Justin Barker
With top safety crash test scores, seating for up to 8-passengers and optional all-wheel drive, the 2014 GMC Acadia is “engineered for families.” It is also equipped with a big V6 engine paired to an automatic transmission, and will provide drivers with handling that feels more like a crossover than an SUV.
The slightly rugged and very truck-like styling that is reminiscent of GMC trucks, should both please and secure parents concerned with safety. Although not yet rated for the small overlap front crash test, the 2014 Acadia is indeed a vehicle to consider for families. It has received top Good scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for all other crash tests, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the SUV a top 5-star overall rating. The Acadia is also equipped with a variety of safety features, from the available rear cross traffic alert system to side blind zone alert, and the in-vehicle communications and assistance service known as OnStar.
Under the hood, the vehicle is powered by a 3.6-litre direct-injection V6 engine, which generates 288 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque at 3,400 rpm. Mated to a standard 6-speed automatic transmission, the 2014 GMC Acadia will provide drivers with secure handling and a comfortable ride. Consumers can also opt for the automaker’s full-time, “active electronic” AWD system that powers all four wheels at all times, and is not only great for daily commutes and winter driving, but can be considered (to an extent) capable off-road as well.
A trailer towing package is also optional for customers that have a use for it, and includes a hitch receiver platform, 2-inch hitch receiver, 7-wire trailer wiring harness with sealed connector, a transmission cooler and an electric brake controller harness.
As for fuel economy ratings, the Acadia SUV has a rating of 12.7/8.4 litres per 100 kilometres when in the city and on the highway, and equipped with the standard front-wheel drive system. The combined consumption rating is 10.8 L/100km, and with AWD the average rating becomes 11.2 L/100km.
On the inside and with the base SLE-1 model, occupants will benefit from a roomy interior with 8-passenger seating, comfortable front bucket seats, and GMC’s “SmartSlide” second-row seats that fold flat, along with a third-row 60/40 split-bench that also folds flat. Heated and cooled driver and front passenger seats are luxury features to opt for on the top SLT-2 trim, and buyers can either enjoy standard premium cloth seats, or available perforated leather seats that are optional on the SLT-2 model with the addition of forward collision alert and lane departure warning.
Tri-zone climate control for occupant comfort with individual settings for the driver and front passenger, and controls for the second and third-row passengers, is available as of the SLE-2 model, and steering wheel-mounted audio controls (that is also leather-wrapped), and hands-free Bluetooth phone connectivity come standard, among many other features.
In addition, buyers of the 2014 GMC Acadia can opt for a premium 10-speaker audio system that makes driving the SUV an even more enjoyable experience, and GMC’s Colour Touch Radio and Navigation Radio with IntelliLink is also worth considering. Your Bruce GM dealer will be please to provide you with more information regarding these features.
A rear entertainment system that includes a DVD player, remote control, and overhead display, among others, is also the perfect feature to keep children entertained during long drives.
There are so many available features and technologies to explore on the 2014 GMC Acadia. Families in particular can appreciate the top safety ratings, secure handling, available AWD system, and spacious interior of the SUV. For all these reasons it’s worth booking a road test with your Bruce GM dealer today!
