Consumers that no longer want a fullsize pick-up should to keep their eyes peeled for the all-new 2015 GMC Canyon when it arrives in dealerships. After a two-year hiatus, the new model re-enters the market with new powerful and efficient engines, and fuel-efficient truck utility for customers looking for a smaller-sized truck. With a sleek and modern design both inside and out, and features like 4G LTE, the new 2015 Canyon is certainly worth a peek.

The automaker’s new truck is meant to be more capable and versatile than competing vehicles in the midsize pickup segment. It offers everything from a corner step rear bumper, to electric power steering, and available features like auto locking rear differential and GMC’s EZ-Lift and lower tailgate. Another useful element to look out for is slightly more infotainment-related: the 4G LTE with built-in Wi-Fi hot spot feature that allows buyers to connect to the Internet.

Consumers may also note the power and driver-control technology found in the 2015 GMC Canyon. The truck can be equipped with a 2.5-litre inline-4 engine, or a potent 3.6-litre V6 engine producing an estimated 302 hp, both of which feature direct-injection and variable valve timing, and are paired to 6-speed transmissions. As for consumers that are interested in the diesel option, the automaker says that a 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine will join the lineup in 2015.

Back in January when the vehicle was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, General Motors mentioned that its new Canyon is expected to deliver the segment’s best payload, said to be at least 1,450 pounds (or 657 kg), and best maximum trailering rating of no less than 6,700 pounds (or 3,039 kg) when properly equipped.

In terms of technology, buyers can expect traction and trailer sway control to be equipped with the midsize pickup truck, and GMC’s AutoTrac transfer case for the 4x4 model is available, as is hill descent control, and as mentioned earlier, drivers can increase traction with the available automatic locking rear differential feature.

Inside the truck, a variety of elements that helps to keep the noise level down, therefore proving owners with a quiet cabin. As for comfort features, consumers can opt for elements like a soft-touch instrument panel, and with the All-Terrain package, a carbon-fibre-type trim, and red stitching. For convenience’ sake, the 2015 Canyon comes with a large centre console and controls for better visibility, up to four USB ports, and a 12V charging outlet.

A rearview camera is standard, and buyers can select the available 8-inch display that comes with the next-generation IntelliLink infotainment system, with features like hands-free calling, Siri Eyes Free for iPhone users, and MyMedia, among others.

If safety is a concern, owners get a free 6-month trial to test out the OnStar feature with a plan that includes automatic crash response, roadside assistance, remote door unlock, emergency services link, and finally turn-by-turn navigation that adds convenience to the list of safety features. Forward collision alert and lane departure warning technologies are also available.

The all-new 2015 GMC Canyon can be a great alternative to a fullsize truck. Nice styling, a strong V6 engine, and several available features and technologies all make for an intriguing choice within the midsize pickup truck market.
